Sodexo has a new opening for a Senior Category Manager at our North American headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD. Well qualified candidates who are not local to the Gaithersburg area will also be considered to work remotely and are encouraged to apply. 

 

Purpose of the Role:

The Senior Category Manager provides leadership in delivering or exceeding corporate and strategic goals related to assigned categories across a wide range of Sodexo retail locations. (This is a Food focused position, managing the retail and packaged snacks category). The Senior Category Manager will also:

  • Define, develop and implement effective assortment and merchandising/shelving plans with key cross functional stakeholders and supplier partners. 
  • Drive controllable category and cross category contribution to growth and margin improvement. 
  • Develop strong partnerships both within Sodexo, particularly with Supply and Offer Development/Marketing, and with external supplier/vendor partners.

 

Principal Duties:

  • Lead the category review cycle for all assigned categories.  Develop and execute category plans that are aligned with and support corporate goals and strategies.  Use research to ensure that the consumer is included in all plans.  Ensure category planning process drives continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and communicate relevant market data to internal stakeholders 
  • Develop and nurture strategic vendor alliances required to identify synergies, promote mutual growth, maximize resources, ensure consumer focus and capitalize on market opportunities. Work cross functionally with Supply, Offer Development/Marketing and suppliers to identify best practices.
  • Work with Consumer Insights and Vendor Partners to conduct research needed to meet category objectives. Conduct competitive market research required to maximize, monitor, evaluate and benchmark the progress of the category business plans and financial performance.
  • Drive improvement of analytical tools that assist in category planning and execution (space, price, assortment, and promotion), direct product profitability analysis, cost management/process improvement. 
  • Develop reports on category performance, issues and opportunities.
  • Deploy category plans including assortment and planograms reflecting the range of equipment and shelving configurations across Sodexo to the field.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree is a plus
  • Experience managing work groups
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Advanced Excel skills
  • 5+ years of Category Management experience with an understanding of the category management process
  • Demonstrated knowledge of category management processes
  • Demonstrated ability with all information-based selling tools
  • Advanced Experience with Panel and Scan Syndicated Data (IRI or Nielsen)
  • Advanced Experience with Space Management Software (JDA or Apollo)

 

Basic Education Requirement - Bachelor’s Degree 

Basic Management Experience - 5 years   

Basic Functional Experience - 3 years
